The beginning

Third year college. Unpaid school debt sitting over my head. Some days I had a budget. Most days I didn't. I skipped meals not because I forgot to eat, but because skipping was the only way to make my money stretch.

I wasn't looking for a side hustle. I was looking for a way to not fall further behind.

I had an idea, though. I always had ideas. The problem was every time I sat down to actually do something with one, I'd open Claude, type something, and get back an answer that felt helpful for about thirty seconds before I realized it had nothing to do with my specific situation.

Generic prompt. Generic output. Still stuck. Still broke.

The breakthrough

Then I stumbled on a conference talk by Matt Pocock about Claude skills. The concept stopped me cold. Instead of typing a new prompt every session and hoping for the best, you write a skill once. Claude becomes a specialist for that exact problem. Every conversation starts from a system, not a blank page.

I built my first skill that week. It worked. A few classmates found out and paid me for it.

That was the first money I made from an idea. Small. But real. And something clicked.

What happened next

I decided to document everything. Not because I had a plan, but because I wanted to see if I could take an idea from zero to a first sale on Gumroad using skills the whole way through.

Validate the idea with a skill. Research the market with a skill. Build the product with a skill. Write the sales page with a skill. Launch it.

Every step had a problem. Every problem got a skill. I recorded the whole thing.

I made my first dollar. Then a few more. The debt didn't disappear overnight. But I stopped skipping meals.
